The DEI Committee’s Mission

Hinckley Allen’s Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee’s mission is to promote and foster a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion at all levels of the firm through firm-wide educational events, community involvement, and the recruitment, hiring, mentorship, retention, and promotion of diverse attorneys and staff.

Mansfield Certified

Hinckley Allen Social Justice Fund

Hinckley Allen established the Hinckley Allen Social Justice Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation. The fund will allow the firm to make impactful gifts and contribute to racial equity and social justice in our communities and our industry. Hinckley Allen has long ties to Rhode Island, where it was founded in 1906.

Partnership with GK Fund

Hinckley Allen has partnered with the GK Fund to provide pro bono legal services to all GK Fund grantees.

GK Fund is a non-profit that makes small grants to growth-stage start-ups and growing for-profit companies whose founders/owners identify as BIPOC, women, or veterans to help high-impact, high-potential entrepreneurs who are traditionally underserved and face more challenges.

Attorneys at Hinckley Allen will provide access to services and counsel in areas such as: intellectual property, contracts, tax law, real estate, and mergers and acquisitions.

Women’s Forum

The Women’s Forum serves as a platform to help the firm’s women lawyers build professional and personal relationships. Group members share information and exchange views on today’s issues impacting their lives. The forum’s ultimate objective is to promote the recruiting, development, retention, and advancement of our women lawyers.

The DEI Advisory Task Force

The DEI Advisory Task Force was created with the purpose of engaging the Firm’s non-attorney talent in diversity initiatives in an effort to reach all members of our Hinckley community. While the task force is there to support the DEI Committee in promoting and fostering a firm-wide culture of diversity, equity & inclusion, it also establishes its own DEI goals and initiatives aimed at offering all employees at all levels meaningful opportunities for education, participation, and engagement in diversity efforts.

The members of the task-force have had great success over the past year in the areas of recruitment of diverse personnel, the establishment of educational opportunities, and the creation of a popular, firm-wide book club focused on reading diverse literature culminating in dynamic discussions.

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

The Malcolm Farmer III Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Scholarship

We are dedicated to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion within our ranks. In addition to our general application, we offer scholarships to first-year law students. Successful applicants will integrate into our salaried 10-week summer program, receiving a scholarship of $5,000.

Eligibility criteria include enrollment in an ABA-accredited U.S. law school, a strong academic record, leadership qualities, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity. To apply, submit a resume, transcript, writing sample, and a personal statement highlighting life experiences and how you will contribute to the diversity of the firm and the legal profession. First-year law students are invited to apply starting December 1, 2024, of their first semester, with a deadline for applications set on January 15, 2025. The selection process involves a thorough review by a panel of attorneys and management personnel. Summer Associate Program

Hinckley Allen’s Summer Associate Program provides extensive mentoring opportunities for our law student interns and strives to provide them with access to meaningful work and equal opportunities in an inclusive environment. Our program provides participants with a practical understanding of the expectations, challenges, and benefits associated with a role within our firm. You’ll engage in hands-on learning through diverse work assignments across all key practice areas to gain valuable experience. Diverse law students who are not diversity scholarship recipients are also eligible for this program. We continue to hone our recruitment approach to attract and retain the best and brightest diverse talent.

Supplier Diversity Program

At Hinckley Allen, our Supplier Diversity Program provides us with a platform to reinvest in our local communities by identifying and engaging with diverse companies in the areas where we live and work.
