Super Lawyers: A Steady Pace in the Marathon of Law

Super Lawyers “Rising Star” Tara Singh was featured in Super Lawyers Magazine—Massachusetts in the Discovery section. Here’s a Q&A with Tara, where she shares insight into her personality and practice.

I can’t go a day without … caffeine. No explanation necessary.

If you were in my office, you’d … wonder how I find anything at all. Organized chaos is a real thing.

My colleagues would be surprised to know that … I’m an introvert.

When I was a newbie lawyer I … didn’t appreciate the importance of having a community. I’ve met so many incredible people by joining the Board of the South Asian Bar Association of Greater Boston (SABAGB). Get involved early on!

The quality I most like in a lawyer is … someone who not only knows the case top to bottom but who can communicate key legal issues and facts without overcomplicated legalese.

When I started, I wish I knew … a legal career is a marathon. Your mistakes do not define you, but your work ethic, integrity and reputation do—focus on what matters.

My career high point (so far) has been … arguing and winning an appeal, which, if not successful, would have likely changed the course of the client’s life at a very young age.

If I weren’t a lawyer, I’d be … an Indian/Mexican fusion chef.

I almost quit the law because … I did not have healthy mechanisms to deal with stress and anxiety. Mental health matters and should be talked about more in this profession.

The SCOTUS justice, past or present, I’d like to meet is … The Notorious RBG.

The SCOTUS decision I’d overturn is … Students for Fair Admissions Inc. v. President & Fellows of Harvard College.

My real-life hero is … my dad. He is the embodiment of the American Dream, and he always encouraged me to dream big. When I told him I wanted to be a lawyer, he supported me every step of the way, even when it meant going against certain cultural norms.

The talent I wish I had is … anything musical. With the last name of Singh, it is a missed opportunity.

The craziest thing I witnessed in a courtroom is … a prospective juror showing up for jury duty with large sunglasses on and an American flag shirt unbuttoned to practically his navel.

My favorite song lyric is … “When you play me, you play yourself”–the one and only Beyoncé.

The three people I’d invite to dinner are … Dolores Huerta, Malala Yousafzai and Dolly Parton.

The last TV show I binge-watched was … Bridgerton season three, along with 45 million others.

Nothing cheers me up like … my Frenchies, Rocko (who recently crossed the rainbow bridge) and our new rescue, Milo.

My guilty pleasure is … Sephora—time ceases to exist as soon as I enter the store.

If I won the lottery I’d … foster and rescue ALL the dogs.
